PLANT CARE

Nurturing the soil during plant vegetation

The same rules of soil care apply to floriculture, what about the cultivation of vegetable crops, Therefore, the information provided here is only a reminder of the vegetables acquired during lectures and exercises. The basic care treatments are: loosening and crushing the crust and weeding.

Loosening
On heavy soils, draining, as a result of the action of rainwater and the sun, the soil surface quickly crusts over, which on the one hand makes it difficult for air to reach the roots, on the other hand, it causes excessive evaporation of water, hence the drying of the soil. In these cases, we use various types of tools to break the crust and loosen the top layer of soil. From hand tools, it will be this: claws, norkros and planets with a set of tools for nurturing. In the case of wider inter-rows, horse or tractor tools with sets of loosening devices are used. Usually, together with the loosening of the soil, its weeding is carried out. The loosening of the soil is also carried out in greenhouse crops (chrysanthemums, cloves, Roses) and in inspections, and sometimes the soil in boxes and pots is also shaken (with a pin).

Fighting weeds

Weeds harm cultivated plants by depriving them of water and easily digestible nutrients and by shading, which causes them to "pull out" and burn out. Losses in yields of crops caused by high weed infestation can even be as high as 50%. When we take into account, on the one hand, the enormous fertility of most of the weeds, which give out from several dozen to several hundred thousand seeds a year and are easy to carry and high germination energy, on the other hand, ornamental plants are highly sensitive to unfavorable conditions, we get a complete picture of the threat to flowering plantations.
So that the fight against weeds is effective, it must be systematic and comprehensive. Weed development? should be limited by the timely use of appropriate cultivation treatments like: stubble, orka, harrowing and cultivating. Under no circumstances should it be allowed to, that the weeds will bloom and produce seeds.
During the growing season, weeds in inter-rows and in rows should be destroyed mechanically and, if necessary, manually. Also, do not compost the weeds together with the seeds, which is particularly important due to the large use of compost soil at the frame and potting soil] cultivation of ornamental plants.
Perennial weeds are particularly troublesome, how: perz, rdest, bindweed. Therefore, for the cultivation of ornamental bulbous plants, rhizome, bulbs and perennials, choose a field completely free of them.
The control of weeds in the frames must be carried out very carefully. M in. systematic evaporation of the soil is helpful in this case.
