Kohlrabi bulbs are very valuable due to their vitamin C content, calcium, iron; are recommended for children. Kohlrabi has a short growing season (60-90 days), therefore it is cultivated as a forecrop or aftercrop. Cultivation of early varieties in the ground is often risky due to the risk of vernalization, manifested by premature breaking of plants into flower shoots.

Kohlrabi grows best in humus soils, damp, not weeded, because it has a shallow root system. The lack of sufficient water in the soil and the high temperature cause the tissues to swallow quickly. Kohlrabi is grown in the first or second year after manure. Before raking the bed, sow after 20 g 40% potassium salt and superphosphate and 15-20 g of calcium ammonium nitrate on 1 m2.

Kohlrabi is grown from seedlings. For early harvesting, seeds are sown in the first days of March for a cold inspection. Seedlings should be ready for planting after 40-50 days (in mid-April); for the harvest in July, seeds of medium-early varieties are sown in a cold inspection in mid-April (seedlings do not need to be picked). Anticipating the Fall Harvest, seeds of late varieties are sown (4 g na 1 m2) on the seedbed in May and planted into the ground in June; seeds of early varieties are sown in July, a plant in August. The spacing for early varieties is 20-25X20 cm, for the late 30-40X30 cm. When kohlrabi begins to form thickening, it is supplied with ammonium nitrate or calcium ammonium nitrate in a dose 10 g/m2. The harvest is commenced, when the thickening of early varieties reaches a diameter of over 4 cm i 5-6 cm in late varieties; overgrown calluses are woody and less palatable.

There are white and blue varieties. The earliest of the ground varieties of kohlrabi is Dvorsky, light green in color, medium size, tasty. Later Fr. 4-6 days is Vienna's White, white-green color, small, it quickly becomes woody, sensitive to low temperatures. Viennese Violet with a violet hue has similar characteristics. Delikates Biała is a bit early, medium size, white-green color, it quickly becomes woody, for summer and autumn consumption. With similar characteristics, but different in color, is Delikates Violet. They are late varieties: Blue Butter, medium size, lilac colors, it does not stay wood for a long time and Goliath the White, big, light green, grows from planting to harvest 70-85 days, can be stored until February.
