CARE WORK IN THE FIRST YEAR OF RUNNING THE NURSERY

Spring work usually begins with cutting the rootstocks planted in the fall to height 20-40 cm from the ground. The planting of rootstocks in spring should also be started as early as possible and the work should be completed early. In the plots of rootstocks planted in autumn, nitrogen fertilizers should be sown as early as possible in spring 40-80 kg of pure ingredient per 1 ha. The size of the dose should depend on the natural fertility of the soil and the quality of the planted rootstocks. The sown fertilizers are mixed with the soil by planetation. Further loosening or planetization of the soil depends on the method of weed control used. For mechanical weed control, the nursery planetary is carried out several times during the growing season. Weeds in the rows are destroyed by hand.
Chemical weed control is increasingly used in large nurseries. A dose of Gesatop is recommended for weed control in plots of rootstocks of pome trees 3-5 kg or Gesaprim per dose 2-4 kg / ha. Lower doses are used on the plots of stone rootstocks. Afalon also turned out to be a good remedy, urea preparation used in dose 1,5-2,5 kg / ha. Recommended doses of herbicides per 1 ha should be dissolved in 600-800 liters of water. The prepared liquid is evenly sprayed over the entire surface of the soil. After spraying the soil with herbicides, loosen it in the inter-row spaces, especially for the first two months.
The protection of rootstocks in the nursery is limited to the control of only some diseases and pests that appear sporadically. Particular attention should be paid to the protection of bird cherries against fine leaf staining of stone trees. All diseases and pests should be controlled as described in the chapter on the production of generative rootstocks.
