Kawon

Kawon

Kawon, also called watermelon, it is similar to a melon in the way it is eaten and grown. Its fruit is smooth, dark green or striped, depending on the variety, and the flesh is most often red. It is an annual plant. Due to its temperature requirements, it can be grown in frames, under foil covers, and in the ground only in places that are sunny and sheltered from winds. The soil should be fertile, airy, permeable and warming up well. Watermelon requires heavy fertilization before planting and top dressing during growth.

The seedlings are prepared similarly to the melon, however, growing 4-5-leaf seedlings requires 6-7 weeks. For field cultivation, seeds are sown in early April, for pots with a diameter 6-7 cm, because it is sensitive to transplanting. The pots with sown watermelon seeds are kept in a room with a temperature of 22-24 ° C. The seedlings into the ground are planted at the end of May or the beginning of June with a spacing of 1.5X1 m, preferably wells with well-decomposed manure or compost.

The coffee beans are not cut until the fruit has set and grown. When the buds reach the size of a small apple, is left on the plant 4-5 pieces most evenly distributed, then the tops of the shoots are pinched over the second leaf after the bud. All non-fruiting shoots at the root are also removed, if they are too dense.

There are many different varieties of watermelon in the world, but in Poland, due to climatic conditions, they are not farmed; therefore the seeds are imported.
