Brazilian raisin

Brazilian raisin

Brazilian raisin, physician or Peruvian spinal cord, in our climatic conditions it is grown as an amateur plant, one-year-old. The fruit contains a lot of vitamin C and is covered with a sticky one, bitter mass. After picking, wash them in hot water. In this way, we remove the thin shell from the top, containing bitterness. Requires a temperature of 20-25 ° C for germination and growth. It grows well in both heavy soils, and light, any fertile. It owes its name to the way the fruit is used, which, when dried, serve as an addition to cakes or after cooking by 5-10 minutes in syrup (a glass of sugar with a glass of water) -as delicacies.

Raisins are sown at the beginning of February in pots or in boxes in a warm or flat inspection. WITH 0,1 g of seeds are obtained 50 seedlings. The seeds germinate after 10 days. After the appearance of the first true leaves, the seedlings are picked at a 5X5 cm spacing. When the fear of frost is over, seedlings are planted in a sheltered and sunny place. We carry out organic fertilization with manure in the fall. Depending on the soil fertility, we use mineral fertilizers: nitrogen preferably in the form of ammonium nitrate in quantity 30-50 day/10 m2, which is given in two doses – before planting and top dressing, phosphorus in a dose 30-50 dag / 10 m2 of superphosphate and also potassium sulphate 30-50 day/10 m2.

The raisin is not high (30-70 cm), but due to the layering shoots, a spacing of 100X100 cm or 100X60 cm is used. From mid-July, the raisin begins to bear fruit and lasts until the autumn frosts. Greenish-yellow fruit, enclosed in a vesicular sheath, weighs 5-12 g. Ripe fruits drop off by themselves, so you only have to collect them. They are stored in a dry place, and after breaking the casing, the fruit is taken out and dried in the sun or in the oven.

The Brazilian raisin has no established varieties in Poland (generally there are small-berry and large-berry varieties), you just don't grow this plant.
