Brukiew (carps)

Brukiew (carps)

Brukiew, thanks to high resistance to cold (seeds start to germinate at 6 ° C), low soil requirements (however, it grows poorly on sands) and a short growing season, it is a valuable vegetable, although not everyone is an amateur. It is a source of vitamin C., iron, calcium and phosphorus. It has dietary properties, because it prevents diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and biliary tract.

Swedes can be grown from sowing into the ground or from seedlings. Ground sowing is performed at the end of April or beginning of May in co-rows 50 cm or better nestable (row distance 50-60 cm, and in a row seeds co 35-40 cm). Grown from sowing directly into the ground, it gives a high yield, but has a fairly long growing season (about 150 days), therefore, it is recommended for amateurs to grow rutabaga from seedlings. Then the seeds are sown on the seedbed in May or June in the co-rows 10-12 cm. For the preparation of seedlings for planting 1 m2 required 0,1 g nasion. The production of seedlings continues 4-5 weeks. It is planted up to mid-June as an aftercrop (e.g. after the onion with spring onions) spaced 40X30 cm. You can also grow swede with other vegetables (e.g. with early tomatoes). The soil should be weeded during the plant growth period. If the leaves are light, you need to supply plants with ammonium nitrate in the amount of approx. 15 g na 1 m2. The yield can be as high as – depending on the method of cultivation – from 20 do 60 kg z 1 m2.

Rutabaga sown directly into the ground should be dusted against fleas immediately after emergence, and when the first leaves develop, interrupt, leaving the plants in a row co 30 cm, in nest sowing - one plant per nest. In the breaks resulting from the failure of seeds, you can plant the plants extracted from the break. To reduce the greening of the root, which is considered a defect, the growing swede should be covered with soil on the sides with a hoe.

Diseases and pests of turnip greens

Turnip vegetables are attacked by the same diseases and pests, what cruciferous vegetables. They make their toll the most: black leg, cabbage syphilis, downy mildew and fleas. In case of heavy infestation the fleas are fought, by spraying with Metox Pł. 30 in concentration 0,6% or by dusting with Insectofos.

Symptoms of diseases and damage, and the methods of prevention and control are the same as in cruciferous vegetables.
