Vegetable decorations for balconies

Long and profusely flowering plants are best suited for balconies and boxes under the windows, not very high, of equal height. Usually, popular bedding plants are used for this purpose:

ageratum, forget-me-not

constantly blooming begonia, pelargonia pasiasta

begonia bulwiasta, petunia

bratek, daisy

heliotrop, sage

nasturtium, garden pyrethrum - small-flowered varieties, very low.

Annual climbing plants can also be used, like large-leaved beans, morning glory, morning glory, Japanese hops and sweet peas.

When choosing plants for a balcony, you should take into account its display, because not all plants tolerate constant sunlight or shading well. So ageratum will grow best on the southern balconies, constantly blooming begonia, nasturtium, pelargonia and petunia. Few plants are successful on the northern balconies - periwinkle and forget-me-not feel relatively best there. On the balconies of the south-west exposure, southeast, East and West all plants suitable for this purpose grow well.

Plants for the decoration of balconies and windows are most often planted in wooden boxes, approx 1 m, 20-25 cm wide and deep 20 cm. There should be several openings at the bottom of the boxes for draining excess water. If the box is placed directly on the balcony floor, should be stocked with 2 cross slats. The outer walls of the boxes are painted with oil paint.

For most plants, frame soil or a mixture of frame soil is used, compost and sand. The addition of peat is very beneficial, which m. in. prevents the soil from drying out quickly.

The soil in the boxes should be changed annually, for there is so little of it, that plants deplete nutrients during one growing season.

Plants in boxes are planted more or less at the same intervals as in the flower beds. Medium high, like a constantly blooming begonia, pansies, heliotrop, nasturtiums, daisies, sweet peas and bindweed are planted every 10-15 cm. Larger plants, like tuberous begonia, pelargonie, petunias and gilding are planted every 15-20 cm. Very small plants, like a lobelia and a dragonfly we plant what 5 cm, in 2-3 rows.
