Garden carnation - Dianthus caryophyllus part 2

Transplanting into beds. The prepared plants are planted in pots or on beds filled with soil prepared for cloves, but relaxed by adding 1/5 peat and sand or to universal soil. Before use, these ingredients must be well mixed and moderately moist. The cloves are planted in pots with a diameter of 9-10 cm or in the beds at a distance between them 8 X 10 cm lub 10X10 cm, so shallow, how they grew in the substrate; Tamp the ground around them firmly with a wooden stick; this is the so-called. hard planting. Place the plants in pots on the tables 100 szt./m2. During the first week of the greenhouse, we do not air it and do not water the plants, we only lightly sprinkle in the morning. After about 7-10 days, the plants begin to grow, then we stop sprinkling, and we start watering plants and airing the greenhouse. When the cloves grow to a height of 12-15 cm and develop 3-4 pairs of new leaves, we pin the tops over 5-6 pairs of leaves. Water the cloves abundantly on sunny days, Sprinkle the passages and walls in the greenhouse, and we ventilate greenhouses. If we notice an inhibition in plant growth, we have to feed them with slurry with additive 10 g superfosfatu i 5 g of potassium sulfate for each 10 liters (watering can). In a greenhouse, they are usually planted in late May or June. The planting deadline must be scrupulously adhered to, as the delay causes poor growth and flowering of cloves throughout the winter.

Planting greenhouses. Before planting cloves, greenhouses must be properly prepared. If the soil in the greenhouse is insufficiently permeable, this is when you select the ground in depth 50 cm, we place a 10-centimeter layer of shells or debris and only then we sprinkle previously prepared universal soil for growing cloves, or peat neutralized to pH 6-7 with the addition of a basic dose of fertilizers.

We plant the cloves in wide beds 1,20 m, erected approx 12 cm above the level of the passages; the aisles should be 40-45 cm wide. We reinforce the edges of the beds with concrete slabs 3,5 cm, less often - boards 2.5-3 cm thick. Usually, width plates are used 25 cm, of which 10 cm deep into the ground, 12 cm covers the raised bed, a 3 protrudes above their surface. If in the greenhouse the cloves have already been grown, we only replace the thickness layer 25 cm.

The soil in the beds must settle, Therefore, we start planting cloves only 3-4 days after filling the beds. There are six rows in the field. Poorly branching varieties are planted every 17-20 cm, and more strongly propagating - even what 26 cm. Both the ground, as well as plants intended for planting must be watered the previous day, so that the earth does not crumble. Make a hole of this size with a scoop, that the root ball can fit in it. Knead the bottom of the well and place the plant in this way, to be at such a depth, on which it grew previously, cover with soil and tamp it firmly around. Water the freshly planted cloves and cultivate them in the same way as seedlings until they start growing.

Nursing after planting. When the cloves have already started to grow after planting, we pin off their tops above the third knot (from the root of the shoots), to force the plants to bloom further and to produce more flowers. This procedure cannot be performed later than in the first week of July.

To obtain carnations with straight stems, they must be provided with supports. In practice, two methods of supporting plants are used - with the use of a string or with the use of wire rings. In the first case, at the ends of the beds and along them there are co 3 m we install iron gates. Crossbars are attached to the goals; 3 the lower ones are located at 10 cm, and next what 20 cm. Between them (a bit further) we drag on each floor 7 rows of wire in diameter 2 mm like this, that each row of carnations is bounded by it on two sides. Then, across the beds - also in two layers - we weave a bookbinding string. As a result of these activities, a separate cage is created for each plant. Scaffolding on individual floors can be erected gradually as the plants grow. Before starting to attach the string, we cut it into lengths 135 cm, we tie them to the waist, and then we pull out one at a time and interweave. Two people are most efficient in this activity, one of which attaches a string to the edge wire and is threaded through the two center wires, and coming from the other side of the bed, it finishes the twine and ties it to the other end of the wire.

The string can be replaced with bamboo lengths 1,20 m, split into thin splinters. Bamboo scaffolding is more durable, and the material can be used for several years.
