Oyster mushroom

The substrate overgrown with mycelium can be left indoors or placed outdoors for the harvesting period in autumn and early spring., when the average daily temperature is 5-10 ° C. Adequate air humidity in spring and autumn and light ensure good formation of fruiting bodies. Mushrooms growing in the open air have dark hats. Short-term temperature reduction, even below 0 ° C, it will not destroy the fruiting bodies, which start to rise again when the temperature rises. The substrate that grows in bags can be kept in the gazebo on the plot. After it has grown through, the foil is removed from the ground and placed on the north side of the gazebo, to protect them from the sun. Cellars and other premises can be used to grow oyster mushroom. When the mycelium grows through the substrate, the room temperature should be lower than 15 ° C (and do not pick it up until the appearance of fruiting bodies). If the room is dark, turn on the light (1 neon lamp, preferably blue”, enough for 3-3,5 m2 of space). During this period, light is needed for approx 12 hours a day. The rooms should be kept as humid as possible. After 5-6 days from the moment the temperature drops in the foil holes and under the foil, where there is air access, the fungus buds will appear. From the moment the buds appear, the room must be well ventilated.

Oyster mushroom bears the so-called. throws. Collect mushrooms for approx 7-10 days after setting the fruiting bodies. The time interval between throws is (about) 2 weeks. After collecting the first projection, the holes in the foil can be enlarged. We collect mushrooms (with brakes) for about a month. The fruiting bodies grow in clumps. They are collected, twisting from the ground or cutting with a sharp knife. On average with 1 kg of dry straw can be obtained from 0,4 do 0,8 kg. Boil the collected fruiting bodies, fry, they are suitable for stewing, pickling, drying, solemnity. This fungus is therefore very widely used.

Oyster mushroom can also be grown on wood blocks. The wood should be healthy. It is best to use wood (from a freshly cut tree) in diameter 15-20 cm and length 30-35 cm. Need caution, lest the wood be polluted with earth. Tree felled too early, e.g. and 2 months before fungal infection, please soak in water through 3-5 days or moisturize several times with water. Wood blocks are placed in the garden and an outer ring a few centimeters thick is cut from them. A layer of mycelium thick is applied at the cut-off site 1 cm and covered with a cut-off ring. Then the wood ring is attached to the block with nails. The block prepared in this way is buried in May – flush with the surface of the mycelium applied – In the ground. During summer and autumn the mycelium grows over the block and when the temperature rises, fruiting bodies will begin to appear.
